Globally amphibians have suffered enormous losses and are the most imperiled vertebrates. Of the species occurring in Hastings, 2 are listed as Near Threatened (Western Toad and Yellow-legged Frog) and 3 are Vulnerable (California Red-legged Frog, California Tiger Salamander, Western Pond Turtle).
Over 500 people have worked at Hastings over the last 60 years with no occurrences of rattlesnake bites. Burrow systems of the California ground squirrel are important habitat for many reptiles and amphibians. As our native ants are displaced by the non-native Argentine Ant, our coast horned lizards are becoming rarer.
